UK Field Based | Mechanical Engineering | Industrial Automation & Power Transmission

Consulo are proud recruitment partners to a highly respected global manufacturer of industrial automation and drive technology, supporting their search for a Field Sales Engineer. Operating internationally with a history spanning more than 50 years, our client designs and manufactures an extensive range of technologies used by OEMs, machine builders and industrial customers across some of the world's most demanding applications.

What makes this particular opportunity different is that we are not looking for an automation salesperson. This position will take responsibility for developing the company's mechanical product portfolio across the UK, encompassing:

  • Industrial brakes and clutches
  • Gearboxes and geared motors
  • Electric motors and servomotors
  • Mechanical drive technology
  • Application-engineered power transmission solutions

The successful candidate will work closely with OEMs, machine builders and engineering customers, identifying applications, understanding technical requirements and developing the appropriate solution. This is therefore not a transactional component sales position. You will be expected to understand the mechanics behind an application – considering areas such as torque, speed, ratios, duty cycles, braking, holding, positioning and overall drivetrain requirements.

A Different Proposition

For engineers currently working within mechanical power transmission, this represents an opportunity to significantly broaden your technical exposure. While the role itself is mechanically focused, you will be joining a manufacturer whose wider capabilities extend across variable-speed drives, servo technology, motion control and complete industrial automation systems. Rather than simply moving from one mechanical component manufacturer to another, you will have the opportunity to retain your mechanical specialism while developing a much broader understanding of the complete machine drivetrain.

The company has an excellent reputation for engineering quality, product development and application expertise, with its technology supporting customers across industries including machine building, material handling, logistics, robotics, manufacturing, process machinery and specialist industrial equipment.

Who Are We Looking For?

Fundamentally, you must have a mechanical engineering background. You will ideally hold an HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification within Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline. Candidates who have developed substantial mechanical engineering knowledge through their career will also be considered.

We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have experience involving:

  • Gearboxes
  • Geared Motors
  • Electric Motors
  • Brakes
  • Clutches
  • Couplings
  • Bearings
  • Linear Motion
  • Power Transmission
  • Mechanical Components
  • Machine Building

You may currently be working as a Technical Sales Engineer, Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, Product Engineer or in another technically focused customer-facing position. Previous experience selling into OEMs, machine builders or industrial manufacturers would be particularly attractive. Experience of drives or industrial automation would be advantageous, but it is not essential. Mechanical engineering credibility is far more important.

The Opportunity

This is also a particularly important appointment for the long-term development of the UK business. Our client isn't simply looking for somebody to arrive, inherit a territory and hit a quarterly number. They want to invest in an engineer who can develop significant product and application knowledge, build long-standing relationships with customers and progressively establish themselves as a key technical and commercial figure within the UK operation.

For an ambitious mechanical engineer who enjoys the commercial side of engineering but doesn't want to lose the technical element of their career, this represents an opportunity to join a genuinely global engineering manufacturer while substantially broadening their future career possibilities.
