This is a highly visible leadership position responsible for overseeing the operational performance, engineering standards and service delivery across two strategically important UK service facilities. The successful candidate will lead and develop workshop and service engineering teams whilst driving operational efficiency, technical quality, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement throughout the service operation. This role goes far beyond traditional workshop management. The business is seeking a technically credible engineering leader capable of acting as a key decision maker across complex repair, overhaul and recovery activities involving heavy mechanical and rotating equipment.

You will play a pivotal role in:

  • Assessing failed equipment and determining methods of recovery
  • Driving repair quality and technical standards
  • Making engineering decisions around repair vs replacement/scrap viability
  • Leading root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities
  • Developing engineering capability across the service operation
  • Driving workshop performance, utilisation and operational efficiency

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across the company’s Warrington and Scunthorpe service centres
  • Lead, mentor and develop workshop engineers, field engineers and technical personnel
  • Manage service, overhaul, repair and remanufacturing activities across complex mechanical equipment
  • Act as a technical authority for engineering decision making and recovery methodology
  • Ensure all repair work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest engineering standards
  • Drive operational KPIs including turnaround time, utilisation, quality and service performance
  • Lead fault diagnosis, root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives
  • Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives
  • Ensure full compliance with HSE, quality and engineering governance standards
  • Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure exceptional service delivery
  • Oversee contractor management, technical reporting and operational documentation

Requirements:

  • Proven leadership experience within a service, maintenance, overhaul, repair or rotating equipment environment
  • Strong technical engineering background with exposure to heavy mechanical systems, transmissions, gearboxes, rotating equipment, hydraulics, generators, motors or similar industrial equipment
  • Experience managing workshop operations, engineering teams or multi-site service functions
  • Strong fault diagnosis, engineering problem solving and root cause analysis capability
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions around repair methods, quality standards and recovery solutions
  • Strong operational leadership and people management skills
  • Experience driving KPIs, operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Good understanding of HSE, RAMS, permits and engineering compliance standards
  • Commercial awareness with exposure to budgets, utilisation and service performance metrics
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capability
