Consulo are proud recruitment partners to an exciting British Engineering Manufacturer specialising in advanced mechanical power transmission and industrial drive technology, continuing to expand its UK commercial operation and is looking to appoint a Regional Sales Specialist for the West Midlands. This is a technically led sales position focused on developing engineered solutions for OEMs, machine builders and industrial end users. The successful individual will work directly with customers to understand their machinery, operating requirements and application challenges before developing technically and commercially appropriate solutions in conjunction with the company's engineering teams.

The Role

You will take ownership of the West Midlands territory, developing opportunities across a range of Heavy Industrial sectors. This is not a transactional or catalogue-based sales position. Customer discussions will typically centre around the application itself – how equipment is operating, the demands being placed upon it and where improvements can be made in areas such as performance, reliability, efficiency and lifecycle.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing technically led sales opportunities across OEMs, machine builder and end-user accounts
  • Identifying new applications, projects and potential customers throughout the region
  • Conducting customer site visits and detailed application discussions with engineering teams
  • Understanding operational requirements and translating these into suitable engineered solutions
  • Working closely with internal technical and engineering teams throughout the specification process
  • Developing solutions around customer requirements including power, speed, torque, duty, operating environment and equipment configuration
  • Managing technically complex opportunities from initial discussion and specification through to commercial negotiation and order
  • Building relationships across engineering, maintenance, operations, procurement and senior management
  • Developing a sustainable project pipeline and strategic account base across the territory

The Market

You will work across a broad range of industrial environments including materials handling, conveying, quarrying and aggregates, recycling, bulk processing, manufacturing, packaging machinery, process industries, automotive production and general industrial machinery. Applications can range from individual machine requirements through to more complex drive and power transmission systems incorporated into new machinery, production equipment and existing plant.

The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced and driven technical sales professional with a background in selling engineered solutions into industrial applications. You should be accustomed to conversations that go beyond simply discussing a product and a price. The strongest candidates will be comfortable engaging with engineers, understanding how machinery and production equipment operates, establishing the technical requirements of an application and developing a solution around those requirements. You may currently be working for an engineering manufacturer, systems integrator or specialist technical solutions provider. More important than experience with one specific product range is your ability to understand mechanical or electromechanical applications and demonstrate where an engineered solution can improve performance, reliability or operational efficiency. You should also possess a strong new-business mentality. The company is looking for someone capable of researching a market, identifying the right OEMs and industrial customers, opening new relationships and developing technically complex opportunities over time. A formal engineering qualification would be advantageous, although demonstrable experience selling technically engineered solutions within industrial markets will be equally valued.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a highly established international engineering organisation with significant technical capability, a strong existing UK customer base and ambitious plans for further growth. You will have access to experienced application and engineering support, allowing you to concentrate on developing opportunities in the field while retaining the technical resources required to deliver genuinely engineered solutions. The West Midlands represents a strategically important region for the business, and the successful individual will be given genuine ownership of its development. For somebody who enjoys getting inside customer applications, solving engineering challenges and turning those solutions into long-term commercial relationships, this offers an excellent platform to build a significant territory.
