We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and rapidly growing organisation based in Manchester. Operating across multiple functions and with ambitious plans for the years ahead, this business is at an exciting inflection point in its journey and is building out its internal finance capability to match its growth trajectory. This is not a back-office role in a large corporate where your work disappears into a system. This is a hands-on, valued position within a close-knit team where the quality of your work directly supports the decisions being made at the top of the business. The right person will thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy variety in their day-to-day responsibilities, and take genuine pride in keeping the financial engine of a growing business running cleanly and accurately.

About the Role

Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Bookkeeper will take ownership of the day-to-day financial administration of the business. You will be the person who ensures the numbers are right, the records are up to date, and the business always has a clear and accurate picture of its financial position. As the organisation continues to grow, there is a real opportunity for the right candidate to develop within the role β€” taking on additional responsibilities and growing alongside the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records across purchase and sales ledgers
  • Processing supplier invoices, customer payments and receipts in a timely and organised manner
  • Performing regular bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
  • Managing petty cash, staff expenses and credit card reconciliations
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns, ensuring full compliance with HMRC requirements
  • Supporting the month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and prepayments
  • Liaising with external accountants and auditors, providing accurate records and supporting documentation as required
  • Assisting in the preparation of management accounts and financial reports for senior leadership
  • Monitoring cash flow and flagging any concerns or anomalies to the relevant stakeholders
  • Continuously looking for ways to improve financial processes and increase efficiency

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a confident, experienced Bookkeeper who takes real ownership of their work and does not need to be micromanaged. You will be comfortable working independently, managing your own workload, and communicating clearly with non-finance colleagues and senior leadership alike. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Solid, demonstrable experience in a bookkeeping or accounts role β€” ideally at least three years
  • Strong proficiency with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage β€” Xero experience is particularly desirable
  • A meticulous eye for detail and a systematic, organised approach to financial record-keeping
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines without compromising accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
  • AAT qualification (full or part-qualified) is desirable but not essential β€” relevant experience will be equally valued
  • Prior experience working within a growing SME or fast-paced business environment is a significant advantage

What Is on Offer

  • Salary of Β£38,000 – Β£43,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • Hybrid working arrangement with flexibility around office attendance
  • A genuinely supportive and collaborative working culture
  • Direct access to senior leadership and real influence over financial processes
  • The opportunity to grow your responsibilities and career as the organisation scales
  • A varied and interesting role where no two weeks are exactly the same
