Overview
The Role: Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of the commercial and procurement functions across multiple construction projects. In this role, you will oversee the full commercial lifecycle from subcontractor procurement through to final accounts while supporting strong financial performance and accurate reporting.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the procurement of subcontractors
- Chair and attend subcontractor pre-contract meetings
- Prepare and formalise subcontract agreements
- Oversee commercial risk, legal matters, and dispute resolution
- Manage key commercial issues across projects
- Administer subcontractor interim valuations and payments
- Negotiate and agree subcontractor final accounts
- Produce and submit monthly CVR reports
- Prepare and submit accurate monthly profit and loss reports
- Deliver commercial and post-contract review presentations
- Manage and submit external applications for payment
- Compile project reports in line with the monthly reporting cycle
- Lead the development of monthly dashboard reports in collaboration with the wider project team
Experience
- Strong estimating experience within the construction industry, ideally across multiple sectors, including mid-rise residential developments
- In-depth knowledge of subcontract procurement, tendering processes, and estimating software such as Conquest, Bluebeam, CostX (or similar)
- Confidence in interpreting drawings, specifications, contracts, and financial data
- The ability to manage and prioritise multiple tenders simultaneously
- Experience working with JCT contracts
- A commercially focused mindset with strong negotiation skills
- Confidence presenting to clients and senior leadership teams
- A solid understanding of submission requirements, with the ability to plan and deliver work to meet deadlines
- Competence in building estimates using estimating software and/or manual methods, supported by strong IT skills
- Sound construction knowledge, with the ability to evaluate and appraise alternative solutions
- Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external stakeholders
- Strong presentation skills and professional presence
- The ability to motivate, influence, and collaborate effectively with others
