Construo Recruitment is working in partnership with a leading UK housebuilder to recruit an Assistant Site Manager to support the delivery of high-quality residential developments across the Southern region. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction professional to join a well-established business known for delivering award-winning homes, strong career development, and high standards of build quality.

The Role

As Assistant Site Manager, you will work closely with the Site Manager to oversee day-to-day site operations, ensuring all works are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. You will be responsible for coordinating subcontractors, supporting site logistics, monitoring progress, and maintaining compliance with Health & Safety and company procedures. The role will initially be based on a development just north of Horsham, with future projects across the Basingstoke and Wokingham corridor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Set-Up & Coordination
    • Assist with establishing site welfare, offices, and traffic management systems
    • Support planning of site logistics and temporary works
    • Liaise with utility providers and coordinate service installations
    • Ensure compliance with Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans
  • Subcontractor Management
    • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors across multiple trades
    • Monitor progress against programme and drawings
    • Ensure materials, labour, and resources are available as required
    • Support trade coordination and daily site activity management
  • Quality Control
    • Monitor workmanship across all stages of construction
    • Ensure compliance with specifications including finishes, insulation, DPCs, lintels and structural elements
    • Identify and resolve defects or non-conformance issues
  • Health & Safety
    • Promote and enforce site Health & Safety standards
    • Support RAMS preparation and permit systems
    • Record and report incidents, accidents, and near misses
    • Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety procedures
  • ESG & Compliance
    • Support delivery of Environmental, Social and Governance objectives
    • Assist with sustainability initiatives and net zero targets
    • Support data collection for social value reporting and SmartWaste systems

About You

  • Experience in residential housebuilding in a supervisory or assistant management role
  • Strong understanding of construction processes from groundwork to completion
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM regulations
  • Ability to coordinate subcontractors and manage multiple site activities
  • Basic IT skills and familiarity with site reporting systems
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
