Construo Recruitment are working in partnership with a leading privately owned civil engineering and building contractor to recruit an experienced Estimator to join their pre-contract team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator with a background in civil engineering, industrial buildings, drainage and concrete structures to join a well-established contractor delivering projects across the energy, industrial and commercial sectors.

The Role

As Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing competitive and commercially robust tenders and budgets, from initial enquiry through to submission and successful project handover.

Key responsibilities include

  • Preparing detailed tenders and budgets in line with client requirements and company procedures
  • Reviewing tender documentation, specifications and contract conditions to identify risks and requirements
  • Carrying out site visits to assess access, ground conditions, utilities and other factors affecting project costs
  • Producing estimates from first principles, including labour, plant, materials and subcontractor costs
  • Preparing detailed quantities and calculating appropriate rates and outputs
  • Obtaining, analysing and negotiating subcontractor quotations
  • Liaising with suppliers and buyers to obtain competitive material, plant and service costs
  • Developing resourced programmes and reconciling them against tender summaries
  • Working closely with the Contracts Department to develop competitive and practical construction methodologies
  • Attending tender review meetings and supporting successful project handovers
  • Ensuring estimates comply with company health, safety, quality and commercial procedures
  • Supporting junior estimating staff and contributing to their development where required

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as an Estimator within civil engineering or construction
  • Experience with industrial buildings, small to medium-scale civil engineering, drainage and concrete structures
  • Strong ability to estimate from first principles, including labour, plant, materials and subcontractors
  • Good understanding of NEC3 Options A and B, JCT and ICE contracts
  • Knowledge of CESMM, Builders' Quantities and standard methods of measurement
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of construction costs and risks
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Strong subcontractor procurement and negotiation experience
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines effectively
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Full UK Driving Licence
