The Role
As Assistant Project Manager, you will support the successful delivery of multiple engineering projects, helping to coordinate teams, contractors and stakeholders while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget. This is a field‑based position offering exposure to a wide variety of technical disciplines and project challenges, making it an ideal opportunity for someone looking to gain hands‑on project management experience within a critical infrastructure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of multiple engineering projects from inception through to completion
- Coordinate contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders to maintain project progress
- Assist with monitoring programme schedules, budgets and quality standards
- Support the mobilisation of works, including temporary and emergency solutions
- Track project performance and escalates risks or issues where required
- Assist with cost tracking and financial reporting
- Ensure project documentation is maintained and completed accurately
- Support project handovers to operational teams
- Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety and compliance
- Provide support for reactive and emergency works when required
Requirements
- Experience within the construction, utilities or water sector, including graduate placements or entry‑level project roles
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Proactive and solutions‑focused approach
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑moving environment
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook
- Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to sites
Desirable
- Previous project coordination or project management experience
- Experience supporting project budgets and cost control
- HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline
- Working towards or holding APM, PRINCE2 or similar project management qualifications
- Technical knowledge within:
