Construo Recruitment is working in partnership with a well‑established and growing contractor to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Essex. Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, this is an excellent opportunity to join a successful business delivering refurbishment, maintenance, painting and decorating, social housing, education, healthcare and commercial projects across Essex and the surrounding areas. This role would suit a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor with experience in construction, refurbishment, maintenance or social housing projects who is looking to play a key role within a growing organisation.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for supporting the commercial delivery of multiple projects, ensuring costs are effectively managed and projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and reviewing quotations, estimates and tender submissions
  • Measuring works from drawings and site information
  • Managing project costs, budgets and commercial performance
  • Preparing and agreeing valuations and variations
  • Supporting procurement activities and material purchasing
  • Monitoring project expenditure and identifying commercial risks and opportunities
  • Liaising with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and operational teams
  • Assisting with contract administration and commercial reporting
  • Supporting the successful delivery of projects from pre‑construction through to final account

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry
  • Experience working on refurbishment, maintenance, social housing or commercial projects
  • Strong commercial awareness and cost management skills
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving

Desirable

  • Experience within painting and decorating projects
  • Knowledge of social housing frameworks and maintenance contracts
  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline
