About the Role

Construo Recruitment is working in partnership with a leading steel and construction solutions provider to recruit a Structural Steel Estimator. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and growing organisation operating across multiple divisions within the construction and steel sectors. The role combines estimating, tendering, and client‑facing business development, playing a key part in securing new work and supporting commercial strategy. You will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates while building relationships with clients and contributing to the company’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review tender enquiries, drawings, specifications, and schedules
  • Prepare detailed take‑offs for structural steelwork, including connections and ancillary items
  • Produce accurate cost estimates covering materials, fabrication, coatings, and transport
  • Obtain, assess, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations
  • Identify commercial risks, exclusions, and opportunities within tenders
  • Prepare tender summaries and support internal pricing reviews
  • Assist with project handover following contract award
  • Act as a point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships
  • Follow up on submitted tenders to gather feedback and improve success rates
  • Support early‑stage budgeting, feasibility studies, and pre‑tender discussions
  • Attend client meetings, site visits, and tender interviews where required
  • Contribute to business development activities and pipeline growth

Requirements

  • Experience estimating structural steelwork projects
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Commercial awareness with strong attention to detail
  • Confident communicator with client‑facing experience
  • Proficient in estimating software, Excel, and digital take‑off tools
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines

  • Qualification in construction, engineering, or quantity surveying
