The successful candidate will become part of a specialist System Support Team responsible for delivering planned and reactive maintenance services to a diverse client base across the UK. The role offers a great mix of office-based support, site-based engineering work, fault finding, system optimisation, and customer interaction.

The Role

As a System Support Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of critical control systems for a range of industrial clients. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support to customers, diagnosing and resolving control system issues to minimise operational downtime.
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance, inspections, and system audits.
  • Performing electrical and software fault finding across PLC, SCADA, HMI, and associated control systems.
  • Supporting system upgrades, modifications, and optimisation projects to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Maintaining accurate technical documentation, service reports, and system records.
  • Delivering training and support to end users and site personnel where required.
  • Working closely with engineering teams and customers to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation.

The position will be primarily based from the company's head office; however, regular travel to customer sites throughout the UK will be required.

What We're Looking For

We are keen to speak with engineers who have experience within industrial automation, controls, electrical engineering, or similar environments. Candidates should ideally possess:

  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Previous experience supporting, maintaining, or commissioning control systems.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding abilities.
  • Experience with PLC programming, including Ladder Logic and/or Structured Text.
  • Familiarity with SCADA and HMI systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, or similar.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with customers and colleagues.
  • The ability to work independently whilst also contributing as part of a wider engineering team.

Working Hours & On-Call

The company operates a flexible working policy with a standard 40-hour working week. Core office hours are:

  • Monday to Thursday: 09:30 – 16:00
  • Friday: Early finish at 13:00 (subject to workload)

Due to the nature of the role, a reasonable amount of overtime, night work, and occasional weekend work will be required. Following successful completion of probation and training, engineers will join the on-call rota:

  • 1 week in every 4 on-call
  • £100 standby payment per week
  • Additional overtime payments for call-outs attended

There is also an opportunity to participate in a London support rota:

  • Accommodation provided in London
  • Additional £500 per week payment whilst covering the rota
