My client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong rail bias to support the commercial delivery of a major rail infrastructure project based in Hampshire. This is a long-term contract opportunity for a commercially astute professional with proven experience in the rail sector, particularly within Network Rail environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all commercial aspects of rail infrastructure projects from inception through to final account
- Prepare, review, and manage cost plans, budgets, and forecasts
- Administer and manage contracts in line with NEC forms of contract (NEC3/NEC4)
- Ensure compliance with Network Rail (NR) standards, processes, and commercial requirements
- Assess, value, and negotiate variations, compensation events, and change control
- Undertake cost reporting, cash flow forecasting, and financial performance analysis
- Manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and final accounts
- Provide commercial support to project delivery teams and stakeholders
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
- Support dispute resolution and claims management where required
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the rail infrastructure sector
- Strong working knowledge of Network Rail (NR) forms of contract and standards
- Demonstrable experience administering NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 essential)
- Experience managing compensation events and change under NEC frameworks
- Strong commercial acumen and cost management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Proficient in relevant commercial and cost management software
Desirable
- Previous experience working directly on Network Rail projects
- Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS)
- Experience on major infrastructure or multidisciplinary rail projects
- Familiarity with rail frameworks and alliance contracting environments
