Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Estimator to join a large and well-established energy and civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure, utilities, structural refurbishment and asset maintenance projects across the UK. Working within a collaborative pre-construction team, you will play a key role in the preparation of accurate and competitive tenders for a diverse range of projects.
The role would suit an Estimator, Assistant Estimator, Construction Engineer, Quantity Surveyor or Civil Engineering professional seeking to develop their career within a growing and technically challenging sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and review tender opportunities to determine suitability for bid submission.
- Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documentation to establish project scope and requirements.
- Prepare conceptual, budgetary and detailed cost estimates for civil engineering and energy infrastructure projects.
- Undertake site visits to assess access constraints, construction methodology, risks and project-specific requirements.
- Collaborate with operational and project delivery teams to develop practical and cost-effective solutions.
- Produce accurate take-offs, cost plans and tender pricing schedules.
- Prepare and issue subcontractor enquiry packages and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and contract documentation.
- Work closely with Health & Safety and operational teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Liaise with engineering and technical specialists regarding temporary works, structural solutions and design requirements.
- Participate in tender review meetings and support the bid governance process.
- Compile complete tender submissions, including pricing documents, bills of quantities, activity schedules and commercial proposals.
- Assist in post-tender negotiations and contribute to the successful handover of projects to delivery teams.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Support business development activities by identifying potential opportunities with existing and prospective clients.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous estimating experience within civil engineering, infrastructure, energy, utilities or construction sectors.
- Good knowledge of construction methods, project planning and risk management.
- Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project costs.
- Experience obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tender deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating software packages.
- Full UK driving licence.
