To support our continued growth we are seeking a new team member to join our Sample Preparation Department.
The Sample Prep Team are responsible for the provision of specially prepared MCERTS and UKAS accredited sub-portions of client samples prior to extraction and analysis. The Sample Prep Team using their training also identify potential sources of asbestos contamination and once qualified perform accredited asbestos identification and qualification analysis. The position is based in our Environmental Laboratories Division, working at our Leicester City centre laboratory.
Lab Technician duties and responsibilities will include:
- Preparation of soil, water and construction material samples ready for chemical analysis
- Ensuring that all tasks are carried out to high standards of safety, quality and efficiency
- Follow all procedural requirements as set out by the ISO17025 Quality Management System
- Ensuring that adequate and proper records are kept and filed correctly
- Ensuring equipment is checked, cleaned, calibrated and suitable for use
- Training to become a P401 Qualified Asbestos Analyst
Lab Technician Role Requirements:
- Good oral, written and numeracy skills
- GCSE grade C / 5 or above in maths and science
- Computer literate
- Previous laboratory experience would be advantageous

On successfully passing your 6-month probationary period, you will automatically progress to Level 2. Once at Level two, your skills and knowledge will grow further and your asbestos analysis training will begin. Within around 12 - 18 months your next step is Level 3, to achieve this level you will sit a P401 Qualification Examination and from there you will continue to progress and grow adding new techniques to your now very impressive knowledge of analytical services. From Level 3, each progression step is matched with a pay rise ensuring that your personal development is kept step in step with your earnings. The speed at which you progress is ultimately down to you and how you apply yourself in the role.
