The role of the ALS tutor is to provide high quality teaching and learning for English, Maths, language and study skills to identified SEND learners in small groups and 1:1 across our academies. In this rewarding role, you will provide in and out of class support to assist learners with learning difficulties/disabilities to help them achieve their best possible outcomes. You will be a key part of the team, assisting in the planning, preparation & assessment of learning, giving feedback to tutors and managers on learners.

You will have the personal skills and experience to effectively support learners, dealing with challenging behaviour when it arises, and helping them to develop their own coping strategies. This role will require the successful candidate to work in partnership with our business to ensure learner completion to the highest quality. Candidates will be required to provide support to our academies in Nottingham or Derby, plus our Pop Up venues in the Midlands region, so travel is a big requirement of this role. Working hours are 8:00 am to 16:00 hours Monday to Friday.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following areas:

  • Deliver teaching and learning sessions for small groups to facilitate support sessions on English, maths, language and study skills.
  • Complete assessments on learners in line with quality teaching and learning.
  • Set and review SMART targets for learners attending sessions in line with quality teaching and learning.
  • Utilise learning resources and opportunities, including ICT, fully and effectively in order to enhance learner experience and employability.
  • Assess additional support and referrals to make recommendations for reasonable adjustments.
  • Provide guidance on support options in ways that will maximise individual learning potential and achievement.
  • Signpost learners to appropriate internal and external agencies and services.
  • Work collaboratively with the quality department including attending curriculum meetings and maintaining strong communication to discuss progression and support for learners.
  • Devise and review risk assessments, support plans and recommendations for support delivery.
  • Provide and/or coordinate training for team members as required.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of resources, legislation and best practice, and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Maintain and audit records in line with ALS funding, keeping accurate and timely records using MIS systems relating to delivery and for internal reports.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of equipment and relevant resources.
  • Actively promote the provision available to current and potential learners supporting enrolment, induction, and open events.
  • Develop, maintain and promote links with external agencies and services for signposting to staff and learners.
  • Work collaboratively with the Safeguarding Team.
