Multi-Skilled Operative Location: Preston area Salary: Up to £36,000 per annum, depending on experience Employment Type: Full-time Vehicle: Company van and fuel card provided About the Role We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Multi-Skilled Operative to support a long-term maintenance and refurbishment contract covering family housing across the Preston area. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a broad range of planned, reactive and void property maintenance works, as well as responding to call-outs and emergency repairs when required. We are looking for a practical and versatile tradesperson with a strong background in property maintenance who is confident working across a number of disciplines, including joinery, plumbing, plastering, tiling and painting/decorating. This is a customer-facing role requiring someone who is reliable, professional and comfortable responding to reactive maintenance requirements and call-outs. Key Responsibilities Carry out a range of multi-skilled maintenance and repair works within domestic properties. Undertake joinery repairs, including doors, frames, skirting, architraves, fixtures and general carpentry. Complete plumbing repairs, including taps, sinks, toilets, pipework, fittings and associated components. Carry out plastering and patch repairs, including making good walls and ceilings. Undertake tiling repairs and replacement, including wall and floor tiles. Complete painting and decorating works, including preparation, making good and finishing. Diagnose faults and identify appropriate repair solutions. Carry out planned, reactive and emergency maintenance tasks. Participate in and respond to call-outs, including out-of-hours and emergency repairs, as required by the contract. Attend properties promptly and complete emergency repairs safely and efficiently. Complete works within void properties, ensuring homes are ready for re-let. Work professionally and respectfully within occupied properties. Provide excellent customer service when dealing with residents and customers. Complete all work safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Use hand and power tools safely and effectively. Accurately record completed works using PDA/mobile technology. Work independently and as part of the wider maintenance team. Comply with all relevant health and safety, quality and customer service requirements. About You We are looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Operative with a proven background in domestic property maintenance, social housing, facilities maintenance or a similar environment. You will ideally have strong practical experience across several of the following trades: Joinery / Carpentry Plumbing Plastering Tiling Painting & Decorating Essential Requirements Proven experience carrying out multi-skilled repairs and maintenance within domestic properties. Experience dealing with reactive maintenance and emergency call-outs. Willingness and ability to participate in an out-of-hours call-out service when required. Valid CSCS card – essential. Strong practical and problem-solving skills. Experience working in both occupied and void properties. A high standard of workmanship and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage your own workload. Good communication and customer service skills. Confidence using PDA/mobile technology. A professional, reliable and flexible approach. Full UK driving licence. Ability to obtain, or already hold, the required DBS and SC security clearance. Right to work in the UK. Relevant NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent trade qualifications would be advantageous, although demonstrable experience across multiple trades will also be considered. Physical Requirements This is a practical, hands-on role requiring a good level of mobility, physical fitness and manual dexterity. The role may involve working at height, in confined spaces and on uneven ground, as well as regularly using a range of hand and power tools. The role also requires the successful candidate to be able to attend reactive and emergency call-outs, including outside normal working hours where required.
