Award-winning structural and civil engineering consultancy, delivering structural design and civil engineering design across residential, commercial and industrial projects from our Manchester head office. They are seeking a Structural/Civil Engineer with a minimum of 2β3 years' post-graduate experience to take ownership of structural design and progress towards Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered (CEng) status.
Responsibilities:
- Taking ownership of structural design for projects, reporting to a Senior Engineer or Project Director
- Attending client and design-team meetings and shaping the brief from the start
- Organising site investigations as required for the project
- Producing outline scheme sketches ahead of detailed structural calculations
- Analysing and designing structures combining steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry
- Producing structural calculations, using proprietary software and hand calculations, to UK codes and building regulations
- Directing technicians on structural and civil engineering drawings in AutoCAD and Revit
- Assisting with the day-to-day administration of projects
Requirements:
- A BEng or MEng (2:1 or above) in Structural or Civil Engineering
- Minimum 2β3 years' relevant post-graduate experience, working towards IEng or CEng status with IStructE or ICE
- A solid grounding in UK building regulations and codes of practice (Eurocodes and/or British Standards)
- Confidence with structural analysis software such as Tekla Tedds or Tekla Structural Designer
- Clear communication, verbal, written and sketched
- A CSCS card and driving licence are useful but not essential
Projects undertaken:
- Projects range in scale from small domestic extensions and alterations to large, unique 'super homes,' alongside subterranean and basement structures, bespoke swimming pool structures, low- to medium-rise new build and existing building conversions, temporary works design, and civil engineering design including retaining walls, hard paving, minor roads and private and adopted below ground drainage systems.
- Regularly instructed on structural surveys and defect diagnosis, including assessing and resolving complex structural problems to existing buildings.
