We are currently working with an established and award-winning structural and civil engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint a talented Structural Engineer to join its team in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

The consultancy delivers a diverse range of projects across the residential, commercial and institutional sectors, from domestic alterations and extensions through to new-build developments, high-specification homes, conversions, swimming pools, temporary works and remedial structural engineering associated with insurance claims.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Structural Engineer looking to broaden their experience across a varied project portfolio, develop their technical skills and progress towards professional qualification.

The Role

Working as part of an experienced and collaborative design team, you will be involved throughout the design process, from initial site visits and feasibility through to detailed design and construction.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Analysis and design of low-rise building structures
• Designing in steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry
• Producing detailed structural calculations, including hand calculations
• Developing practical and commercially viable structural solutions
• Producing and reviewing technical drawings, schedules, reports and specifications
• Using 3D structural analysis and modelling software
• Attending site inspections and assessing existing structures and construction works
• Attending design team meetings, client meetings and site progress meetings
• Liaising with architects, contractors, developers and other construction professionals
• Coordinating structural designs with the wider design team
• Working alongside and directing technicians in the production of structural drawings
• Assisting with project administration and management
• Taking increasing responsibility for projects as your experience develops

The role provides exposure to the full design and construction process, making it particularly suited to an engineer who wants to develop a broad technical skill set.

About You

We're looking for a Structural Engineer with approximately 2–5 years' relevant post-graduate experience, although candidates with additional experience will also be considered.

You should have:

• An MEng or equivalent degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Relevant UK structural engineering experience
• Practical experience with steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry
• Experience using structural analysis software, ideally Tekla Structural Designer
• A good understanding of building construction
• Experience undertaking site inspections
• Good technical report-writing and communication skills
• A logical and methodical approach to engineering problems
• The ability to work independently while contributing to a wider team

Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit would be advantageous.

Ideally, you will already be working towards Chartered Engineer status with IStructE or ICE, or be committed to progressing towards professional qualification.
