Location: Peterlee, County Durham

Position Type: Full-Time, Contract (Up to 12 Months)

Hours: 36.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM with flexible timing options)

Salary/Rate: Competitive hourly rate £24-£29 per hour (Equivalent to £49,500+ per annum)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join a world-class heavy manufacturing facility in Peterlee. In this role, you will provide the technical expertise necessary to design, develop, and implement complex manufacturing systems, operations, and sophisticated machinery.

You will be part of a forward-thinking Manufacturing Engineering team responsible for developing cost-effective processes, launching new products (NPI), and driving continuous improvement utilizing the latest 3D virtual visualization and production validation techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Develop, analyze, and manage complex Manufacturing, Fabrication, Paint, and Assembly projects.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Administer the NPI process to ensure engineering drawings are released and processed on time for production builds.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead Design for Manufacture (DFM) best practices, Lean operations, and process validation.
  • Financial Oversight: Assist in developing department capital/expense budgets and maintaining capital forecasts.
  • Problem Solving: Address critical operational issues, including safety/ergonomics, process bottlenecks, and quality concerns.
  • Equipment & Systems: Coordinate the procurement, installation, and integration of new machinery, machine tools, factory control software, and complex fixtures.

What We Are Looking For

Essential Criteria

  • Industry Experience: A strong background in heavy manufacturing or the automotive industry.
  • Education: A University or technical degree in a manufacturing engineering-related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Technical Knowledge: Thorough, practical knowledge of manufacturing concepts, workflows, and fabrication/assembly processes.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to mentor and coach team members.

Preferred (But Not Essential) Criteria

  • APQP / PPAP experience.
  • Lean manufacturing training or qualifications.
  • Safety and compliance credentials (e.g., CE / PUWER, NEBOSH / IOSH).
  • Experience with capital equipment procurement and financial modeling.
