Working at Winchester, one of the UK’s top boarding schools with over 700 pupils and staff, we require a few head chefs on the site to run the college's many food outlets. Enhanced DBS required. If your application is successful, we will arrange and process a DBS check as part of the onboarding process.
Typical working hours: Monday – Friday, 11am to 7pm (must be flexible to suit business needs)

Working Hours: This is a flexible role; you can pick up as many or as few shifts as you like. Constellation optimises the working schedules of Compass employees, so we can also help you work at over 5,000 venues across the UK on shifts that suit you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Kitchen Leadership & Service: Lead daily kitchen operations, ensuring efficient and high-quality food delivery. Supervise and support chefs, kitchen assistants, and porters. Maintain strong standards during breakfast, lunch, dinner, and events.
- Food Quality & Standards: Prepare and present food to a high standard, following menu specifications. Ensure consistency in portioning, presentation, and taste. Adapt menus where required to meet dietary needs (allergens, special diets).
- Stock & Ordering: Manage stock levels, ordering, and deliveries. Carry out regular stock takes and minimise waste. Ensure correct storage and rotation of all food items (FIFO).
- Health, Safety & Compliance: Maintain excellent food hygiene standards in line with HACCP. Ensure all kitchen records and compliance documentation are up to date. Lead by example in cleanliness and safe working practices.
- Team & Communication: Support training and development of team members. Work closely with front-of-house and site management teams.
Skills / Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Lead Chef / Senior Chef / Sous Chef.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, allergens, and kitchen compliance.
- Ability to lead a team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Organised, reliable, and proactive approach.
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
