Edenbridge – office-based, with travel to client sites across the UK

Are you currently working in IT support and looking to move into a more project-focused role? Do you enjoy setting up networks, devices and Microsoft 365 environments rather than dealing solely with day-to-day support tickets? Would you like to learn from experienced engineers while developing the skills to deliver complete customer projects?

We are recruiting for a Projects Engineer to join a growing Managed Service Provider based in Edenbridge. This is a great opportunity for someone with a solid foundation in IT support who wants to develop their project experience. You may currently be working in a 1st or 2nd Line role, helping with installations, deployments, migrations or smaller technical projects alongside your usual support work. You do not need to have independently delivered every type of project listed below. What matters is that you understand the fundamentals, enjoy hands-on technical work and are keen to learn.

Working alongside experienced engineers and project managers, you will help deliver a varied range of customer projects. This could include:

  • Setting up new client environments
  • Deploying networks and devices
  • Configuring Microsoft 365
  • Supporting file migrations
  • Installing equipment at customer sites

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with new client onboarding and environment builds
  • Supporting onsite discovery, documentation and technical setup for new customers
  • Configuring and installing network equipment
  • Supporting Microsoft 365 tenant setups and migrations
  • Supporting file migrations, including SharePoint, OneDrive and server-based data
  • Preparing and deploying laptops, desktops, servers and other devices
  • Assisting with Windows Server builds and upgrades
  • Supporting larger rollout projects such as PC refreshes and device upgrades
  • Supporting Autopilot and modern device-management deployments
  • Installing hardware, patching equipment and helping with rack builds
  • Tracing cables and troubleshooting issues during onsite installations
  • Helping with Cyber Essentials-related technical work where required
  • Resolving technical problems that arise during project rollouts
  • Producing clear documentation and handing completed work over to the support team
  • Travelling to customer sites across the UK when required, with expenses covered

What you need to bring:

  • Experience in an IT support, infrastructure or field-engineering role
  • A good basic understanding of networking, including DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, VPNs, NAT, switches, firewalls, Wi-Fi and VLANs
  • Some hands-on Microsoft 365 administration experience
  • Confidence setting up and troubleshooting PCs, laptops, servers and other devices
  • Good Windows troubleshooting skills, including printer, email, OneDrive and network connectivity issues
  • An interest in project delivery and building new technical environments
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach when working with customers
  • A willingness to travel to client sites when required
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Experience within a Managed Service Provider would be particularly useful, but candidates from other hands-on IT support environments will also be considered.

Desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience with UniFi or Meraki
  • Exposure to RRAS, Teleport or other VPN technologies
  • Exposure to Microsoft Autopilot
  • Experience with Windows Server
  • Previous involvement in Microsoft 365 migrations, file migrations or customer onboarding projects
  • Experience with data cabinets, cabling or onsite network installations
  • Exposure to Cyber Essentials
  • Some basic exposure to Mac setup or support, such as installing software, updates or dealing with basic user queries
  • Familiarity with Apple Business Manager, Addigy or another device-management platform
  • An understanding of Linux
  • Mac experience would be useful, but this is not a Mac specialist role. The core focus is still Windows, Microsoft 365, networking, hardware setup and general MSP project delivery.

Why consider this opportunity?

  • A clear route from IT support into project engineering
  • Training and support from experienced technical colleagues
  • Exposure to a broad range of technologies and customer environments
  • Varied work combining office-based configuration with onsite delivery
  • The opportunity to take on greater project ownership as your experience develops
  • A growing MSP with ambitious plans
  • Bonus scheme in addition to your basic salary

If you have built a solid foundation in IT support and are ready to develop your career in project engineering, I would be very happy to tell you more.

How to prepare for a job interview at Constant Recruitment Ltd

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
