We are recruiting for a 2nd Line IT Support Engineer to join a respected IT services provider based in Canterbury. This is a full-time, office-based role with occasional travel to client sites across Kent and the South East.
For this role you must have previous experience working within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) and a full UK driving licence.
The RoleAs a 2nd Line IT Support Engineer, you will join a small but highly skilled technical team supporting around 100 clients across commercial and education sectors. This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days are the same. You will be working across multiple client environments, supporting everything from desktops and servers to networking infrastructure and cloud platforms. You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving technical issues, supporting end users, and assisting with IT projects and system upgrades. The role combines both remote support and on-site support, ensuring clients receive a responsive and high-quality service.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced MSP environment and takes ownership of technical issues from initial investigation through to resolution.
Development OpportunityThis role offers excellent exposure to project work and higher-level technical issues, making it ideal for someone who wants to continue developing their technical skills. You will work alongside experienced senior engineers and gain exposure across server infrastructure, networking, Microsoft 365, and cloud environments, with opportunities to develop towards 3rd Line or specialist technical roles over time.
Key Responsibilities- Delivering 1st and 2nd line technical support to a wide range of clients
- Installing, configuring, and testing hardware, software, and networking equipment
- Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues
- Monitoring system performance and carrying out preventative maintenance
- Supporting printers, cabling, and peripheral equipment
- Updating the helpdesk system with accurate fault logs and documentation
- Liaising with third-party suppliers and external contractors when required
- Supporting client IT projects, upgrades, and deployments
This role offers a strong mix of independent problem solving and collaborative teamwork within a supportive technical environment.
What We Are Looking ForTo succeed in this role you will need strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple issues in a busy MSP environment.
Essential skills and experience- Previous experience working within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) – ideally 2+ years
- Strong knowledge of Windows client and server operating systems
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration and ideally Azure
- Good understanding of LAN/WAN networking and wireless technologies
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with clients
- Microsoft certifications such as MCSA or Azure Fundamentals
- Educated to A-Level or above
- Ability to pass an enhanced DBS check
- A full UK driving licence is essential due to occasional client site visits.
Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 (depending on experience)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
Location: Office-based in Canterbury, with travel to client sites across Kent and occasionally further afield
While the business has an out-of-hours support team, there may occasionally be situations where emergency support is required outside normal working hours to minimise client downtime.
