Build what’s next. Rethink how it’s built.

  • Emphasis on technical leadership and problem solving
  • Focus on improving production quality and team effectiveness
  • Competitive salary and benefits package

At Veygo, we’re making insurance feel effortless and helping people become safer, more confident drivers.

We’re also rethinking how we build the software behind that experience and you’ll help shape both.

As a Staff Engineer, you’ll stay close to the code while shaping technical direction within your squad and collaborating across teams.

You’ll tackle problems spanning customer journeys, APIs, backend services, data and cloud infrastructure, with room to challenge existing approaches and put new ideas into production.

Agentic delivery is our default.

You’ll define outcomes and boundaries, then build the tools, environments and feedback that let agents deliver dependable software.

You’ll remain accountable for technical direction and production quality, using evidence to decide where autonomy can expand and where human judgement matters.

Why this role matters

More flexible products and new customer journeys bring technical choices with lasting consequences.

Your squad needs the depth of expertise to work through those choices while continuing to deliver for customers.

You’ll bring that perspective, connecting immediate priorities with the longer-term health of its systems.

Your impact will extend beyond the work you deliver yourself.

By addressing underlying risks, simplifying difficult parts of the codebase and coaching colleagues, you’ll help the squad take on more ambitious problems with greater confidence.

Where changes affect other squads, you’ll help agree a clear way forward.

This gives you room to deepen your expertise and put it to work: solving demanding problems, learning through experimentation and seeing your decisions make a difference in production.

What works well can become a capability or practice that benefits engineering across Veygo.

  • What you’ll be responsible for
  • Take complex ideas from discovery to production, working with engineering, product and design to define the problem and find a practical route forward.
  • Shape systems across the full stack, making clear decisions about interfaces, APIs, domain boundaries, data and infrastructure.
  • Lead agentic delivery, setting outcomes, constraints and acceptance criteria, then challenging agents’ plans and checking results.
  • Build tools, environments and documentation that make engineers and agents more effective, turning repeated manual work into reusable capabilities.
  • Expand autonomy through evidence, using automated checks and clear risk boundaries to let agents implement, test, review and merge low-risk changes.
  • Help teams make shared decisions, resolve dependencies and understand the trade-offs that affect their work.
  • Evolve existing systems through thoughtful refactoring and safe migrations, balancing stronger foundations with value reaching customers.
  • Own production quality, building in accessibility, security, observability and resilience, and acting on what incidents teach us.
  • Help other engineers grow through coaching, design discussions and useful feedback, including working with senior colleagues.
  • Measure what improves: customer experience, system health, delivery speed, quality and the time people spend on avoidable work.
  • What you’ll bring

You’ll bring deep technical expertise, curiosity and a track record of making the engineers around you more effective.

You’ll have depth in frontend or backend engineering, the confidence to work across both and the judgement to know when to explore, simplify or challenge.

  • Significant experience building and operating full stack software, with strong foundations in modern web development, APIs, data modelling and backend services.
  • Technical leadership across complex initiatives, with examples of bringing people together and delivering meaningful outcomes.
  • The ability to get close to the detail: inspect code, debug difficult behaviour and explain why a system works the way it does.
  • Experience with cloud hosted systems, automated testing, CI/CD and safe approaches to changing live services.
  • Practical experience directing coding agents, evaluating their work and building the feedback that helps them succeed.
  • Sound judgement about security, accessibility, performance and reliability, including where automation needs human oversight.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: asking good questions, testing assumptions and giving a team enough clarity to move.
  • A generous approach to knowledge, a willingness to be challenged and an appetite to keep learning.

Our stack spans React and Type Script, Python and Fast API, Postgre SQL, and AWS with Terraform.

We use Git Hub and Circle CI for delivery, New Relic and Sentry for observability, and Claude Code alongside other agentic tools.

Experience with regulated products, transactional systems or tools that make operational teams more effective would be a welcome addition.

How to prepare for a job interview at Consortium

✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Consortium uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
