Are you a hands-on manufacturing leader who enjoys developing people, solving problems and making operations run more effectively? Consortium Professional Recruitment are pleased to be partnering with an established manufacturing business to recruit an Assistant Operations Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of day-to-day operational performance, support continuous improvement and help shape a positive, productive working environment.

Working closely with the Head of Operations, you'll lead production and warehouse supervisors, strengthen team performance and identify practical ways to improve efficiency, quality and safety. You'll spend at least 50% of your time on the shop floor, combining visible leadership with operational planning, reporting and administration.

The Opportunity:

  • Leading and developing teams: Support, coach and manage production and warehouse supervisors, helping them lead their teams effectively and achieve shared objectives.
  • Driving operational performance: Monitor production KPIs, identify opportunities to improve productivity and work collaboratively to resolve operational challenges.
  • Championing continuous improvement: Introduce practical improvements using 5S and Lean principles, reducing waste, improving workflows and creating a safer, more efficient workplace.
  • Supporting quality and compliance: Help maintain ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards, coordinate audit documentation and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Keeping operations running smoothly: Oversee productivity reporting, support employee performance and attendance processes, coordinate purchasing administration and maintain high health and safety standards.

Your work will directly contribute to stronger team performance, improved operational efficiency and a workplace where people feel supported, accountable and empowered to succeed.

About You:

  • Experience supervising or managing people within manufacturing, production or a similar operational environment.
  • A practical understanding of production processes, operational KPIs and ways to improve productivity.
  • The confidence to coach colleagues, address challenges constructively and build positive working relationships.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance shop-floor priorities and administrative responsibilities.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel, operational reporting systems and accurate performance data.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative, approachable leadership style.
  • A proactive mindset, attention to detail and enthusiasm for making meaningful improvements.

Experience with ISO standards, Lean manufacturing, 5S, ERP systems or purchasing administration would be beneficial, although you don't need to bring everything on this list. Most importantly, we're interested in your ability to lead people, learn new processes and make a positive difference. If your experience has taken a different route but you believe you have the transferable skills to succeed, we'd encourage you to apply.

The Benefits and Package:

  • Salary: £35,000 - 40,000
  • A varied leadership position combining hands-on operational involvement with opportunities to influence improvements.
