This is a role for a commercially capable leader who wants to help shape how a growing manufacturing business approaches sales, customer development and commercial performance, not simply inherit an existing function. Our client is a well-established, engineering-led manufacturing business operating within a technical B2B environment, as the organisation enters its next phase of commercial growth and evolution.
This appointment is being managed on a retained basis, reflecting the importance of the role and its impact on the future commercial direction of the business.
The Role
As Sales Director, you will operate as a senior member of the commercial leadership team, working closely with the wider business to strengthen commercial performance and support the next phase of development. This is not a traditional sales leadership role focused purely on maintaining existing relationships. It combines:
- Sales structure and planning
- Cross-functional coordination
- Leadership support across the wider commercial function
You will play a key role in improving how commercial relationships and opportunities are developed across the business, while contributing to the wider commercial strategy and helping shape a more effective and scalable commercial function. This role would suit an experienced Sales Director, Commercial Director, Head of Sales or senior commercial professional looking to take on a broader leadership remit within a growing business environment.
Key Areas of Focus
- Developing and executing structured commercial and customer development plans
- Driving growth and broader commercial opportunity across existing and developing markets
- Introducing greater commercial discipline across pricing, agreements, forecasting and margin management
- Supporting improved pipeline visibility and performance tracking
- Working closely with operations and finance to ensure commercial activity is aligned with delivery capability, cost and margin expectations
- Acting as a connector across sales, operations and wider business functions
- Contributing to the development of a more structured, scalable and measurable commercial operating model
The Person
You are likely to be:
- Operating at Sales Director, Commercial Director, Head of Sales or senior commercial leadership level
- Experienced within manufacturing, engineered products or technical B2B environments
- Comfortable operating within project-led, manufacturing or technical supply‑chain environments
- Commercially minded, with the ability to bring structure as well as drive growth
- Confident working across functions and influencing internally
Experience supplying into manufacturing, construction, technical or engineered product environments will be particularly relevant. You will be comfortable operating at the intersection of sales, operations and finance, with a clear understanding of how commercial decisions translate into delivery, cost and performance. Above all, you’ll bring credibility, commercial judgement and the appetite to help shape the next phase of growth.
Package
Bonus, car allowance, pension, holiday allowance and additional senior‑level benefits. East Yorkshire location, with regular on‑site presence expected.
