Fed up spending all your time firefighting support tickets? Looking for an IT Infrastructure Technician role where you'll gain exposure to modern Microsoft technologies, enterprise infrastructure and exciting technical projects?

This IT Infrastructure Technician opportunity offers the chance to join a well-established UK manufacturing business where IT is recognised as a key part of the organisation's continued growth. You'll support business-critical infrastructure across a large multi-site environment whilst developing your technical expertise across cloud, virtualisation, networking and security technologies.

As IT Infrastructure Technician, you'll work as part of a collaborative infrastructure team where you'll have the opportunity to contribute to both day-to-day operational support and infrastructure improvement projects. If you're looking for a role that combines technical variety with genuine long-term development, this is well worth exploring.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Deliver 2nd and 3rd line support across core infrastructure technologies
  • Support Microsoft Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and Azure environments
  • Maintain VMware, on-premise infrastructure and virtualised platforms
  • Assist with networking, firewall and security technologies
  • Contribute to infrastructure projects from planning through to implementation
  • Create clear technical documentation and share knowledge across the wider IT team
  • Help maintain secure, resilient and highly available IT services across the business

What We're Looking For

You'll probably already be working in an IT Infrastructure, 2nd Line or 3rd Line support role and enjoy solving technical challenges whilst working across a broad technology estate. Experience in most of the following would be beneficial:

  • Windows Server, Active Directory and Microsoft 365
  • Azure cloud technologies
  • VMware vSphere and virtualisation
  • SQL Server environments
  • LAN, WAN and firewall technologies
  • Linux, ideally Ubuntu
  • Cyber security best practice
  • Technical documentation and knowledge sharing
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues

Experience within manufacturing environments, AWS, GCP, SAN storage, SSL certificate management or emerging AI technologies such as Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

Why Join?

This is a business that continues to invest in both its technology and its people. Infrastructure isn't viewed as simply keeping the lights on, it's recognised as a key part of supporting operational performance and future growth.

You'll work alongside experienced infrastructure professionals, gain exposure to a broad range of enterprise technologies and have the opportunity to build your technical capability through ongoing project work and professional development.

You'll also benefit from:

  • £40,000 - £45,000 salary, depending on experience
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 25 days annual leave plus public holidays
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Modern laptop and smartphone
  • Flexible working arrangements where business needs allow

How to prepare for a job interview at Consortium Professional Recruitment Ltd

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
