This organisation plays a vital role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of one of the world's busiest waterways, ensuring seamless operations along the River Thames. This partnership represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced maritime professional to contribute to the continued success of the organisation by leading and managing critical harbour operations.
This is a key leadership position responsible for supporting the Harbour Masters in ensuring the safe and effective deployment of the District Harbour Launches and the Gravesend pilot cutter. Operating from the Gravesend base with frequent travel across all operational locations, the Harbour Master Marine Operations Manager will oversee crew management, compliance with maritime regulations, and the continuous improvement of operational performance. The role demands a proactive leader dedicated to fostering a high-performance culture, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and training.
Key Requirements- Proven Leadership Experience – Minimum of five years in a management role, demonstrating strong leadership, team motivation, and people management skills.
- Technical Proficiency – Advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, with the ability to produce complex data spreadsheets, reports, and formal papers.
- Regulatory & Safety Knowledge – Significant understanding of vessel coding, industry regulations, Safety Management Systems, pilotage and harbour service operations, incident investigation, and contingency planning.
- Operational Expertise – Experience in marine and port industry operations, with a comprehensive understanding of the business, its drivers, systems, and external influences.
- Training & Development – Background in the management and delivery of training, ensuring personnel development, safety training, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
