We are hiring a Senior Network Engineer to join a highly technical, engineering-led organisation in London. This is a key opportunity to take ownership of AWS networking, drive infrastructure automation and help shape the future of a business-critical cloud and network environment. The organisation is investing heavily in modernising its infrastructure, with a growing focus on cloud-native networking, automation and long-term reliability. Engineers are given genuine ownership, the freedom to influence technical direction and the opportunity to introduce better ways of working.

This is a hands-on senior engineering position, sitting at the intersection of networking, cloud infrastructure and platform engineering. You will lead the development of AWS networking capabilities, establish standards around Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, and ensure the underlying infrastructure remains secure, resilient and highly available.

The role

You will take a leading role in designing, building and evolving the organisation's AWS networking environment, with a strong emphasis on automation, security and operational reliability. A significant part of the role will involve developing and maintaining network infrastructure using Terraform, creating reusable modules, improving Infrastructure as Code practices and introducing automated approaches to provisioning and change management. You will design AWS networking solutions using technologies such as VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs and Route 53, while ensuring infrastructure is built for high availability, failover and disaster recovery. You will also work across hybrid environments, supporting secure connectivity between AWS, Azure and on-premises infrastructure, and collaborating closely with DevOps, platform and cyber security teams. Alongside hands-on engineering, you will have the opportunity to set technical standards, influence architectural decisions and mentor other engineers as the organisation continues to modernise its infrastructure. Reliability is central to the role. You will focus on reducing operational risk, improving monitoring and observability, strengthening network security and ensuring critical systems remain available.

About you

We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer who combines strong traditional networking fundamentals with modern cloud infrastructure and automation expertise. You will have substantial hands‑on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, alongside a strong understanding of AWS networking and how to design secure, reliable and scalable environments. You may currently be working as a Senior Network Engineer, Cloud Network Engineer, Network Automation Engineer or in a broader cloud infrastructure or platform engineering role where networking remains a core specialism. You enjoy taking technical ownership, solving complex infrastructure challenges and introducing automation to improve the reliability and maintainability of systems. You will also be comfortable working across teams, communicating technical decisions and helping establish best practices in a collaborative engineering environment.

Required experience

  • Strong hands‑on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, including reusable modules, state management and automated infrastructure provisioning
  • Experience designing and managing AWS networking environments, including VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPNs and Route 53
  • Strong networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, BGP, TCP/IP and secure connectivity
  • Experience designing highly available, resilient infrastructure, including failover and disaster recovery
  • Knowledge of network security principles, including segmentation, least‑privilege access and secure cloud connectivity
  • Experience with network automation, CI/CD pipelines and version‑controlled infrastructure changes
  • Experience supporting hybrid connectivity between cloud and on‑premises environments
  • Network monitoring, observability and troubleshooting in complex production environments
  • Ability to take technical ownership, influence architecture and establish engineering best practices

Desirable experience

  • AWS Advanced Networking Specialty certification or equivalent practical expertise
  • Azure networking, including VNets and ExpressRoute
  • Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco networking and enterprise network security technologies
  • Python scripting or Ansible automation
  • Cisco ISE, SD‑WAN or data centre networking
  • PKI, TLS and certificate lifecycle management
  • Experience working alongside DevOps, platform engineering or Site Reliability Engineering teams
  • Experience within financial services, trading, fintech or other highly available, business‑critical environments
