You’re an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems at scale, not just shipping code. You think in systems, not tickets. You care about performance, scalability, and clean design, but you also understand the real-world impact of what you build. If you’re looking for a role where you can own meaningful product areas and work on genuinely complex software, this could be the right move.
This is an opportunity to join a mission driven product team building enterprise grade software used in highly regulated environments. You’ll work closely with product and engineering peers to shape, design, and deliver systems that need to be robust, scalable, and built to last. You’ll take ownership of key areas of the product, working across the full stack to design and deliver high quality software. This includes tackling complex non-functional requirements such as performance, security, and scalability, while ensuring the codebase remains clean, modern, and free from unnecessary technical debt.
You’ll collaborate closely with Product Leads and DevOps, contributing to architectural decisions and helping shape how systems evolve over time. From debugging and improving existing functionality to designing new features, you’ll be expected to think holistically about how everything fits together. This is an environment where engineering quality matters. You’ll write well structured, testable code, contribute to documentation, and play a key role in maintaining systems that can scale reliably.
The current environment is heavily centred around Symfony, alongside modern web technologies, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL. On the frontend, the team uses Vue.js. However, this is a backend heavy environment, with around 80% or more of the work focused on backend development, system design, and performance. What matters most is not the exact stack you come from, but your ability to work in complex systems.
If you have strong experience in PHP, including Laravel, or come from a .NET or Java background and are comfortable transitioning into a Symfony heavy environment, you’ll be well positioned to succeed. This is a rare blend of enterprise complexity and startup pace. You’ll be working on software that has the depth, scale, and regulatory challenges of large systems, but within a small, highly focused team that moves quickly and values ownership.
The environment is highly collaborative and in person, enabling fast decision making and real time problem solving. There’s a strong emphasis on clarity of thinking, not process, and on delivering meaningful outcomes rather than just output. You’ll have the opportunity to work on increasingly complex problems as you grow, taking on bigger areas of ownership and making a tangible impact on the product.
What You’ll Bring- You’re an experienced engineer who thrives in complex environments and enjoys working across the full stack.
- Strong experience building and delivering complex, enterprise level applications.
- Background in PHP, or other languages such as .NET or Java, with the ability to transition into Symfony.
- Experience working with modern frameworks and understanding architectural patterns such as DDD or CQRS.
- Strong understanding of performance, scalability, and non-functional requirements.
- Experience working across the full stack, including databases such as PostgreSQL.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work closely with product and engineering teams.
- Experience in both startup or scale up environments and more complex enterprise systems would be particularly valuable, as this role sits at the intersection of both.
- Most importantly, you care about what you build and want to work on systems that have real world impact.
- Fully in person, 4 days per week, this is fundamental to how the team operates.
- Highly collaborative, low latency culture with fast decision making.
- Small, high performing team with a strong focus on ownership and impact.
