Tier 1 Financial Services – Financial Crime / CDD Transformation
Level
- Director
- £750 Per day
- A leading Tier 1 financial services organisation is seeking a
CDD Lab Director to lead the end-to-end transformation of Customer Due Diligence (CDD) operations through product-led delivery, journey digitisation, automation, and AI enablement.
This is a true ownership role, not a delivery role within an existing construct.
The successful candidate will be accountable for defining, shaping, and leading a cross-functional lab, translating strategy into measurable OKRs and driving those through to execution and value realisation.
A core requirement is the ability to bridge strategy and delivery, combining structured best practice (e. g.
SAFe) with the pragmatism required to deliver at pace in a complex, regulated environment.
This role requires a leader who can build, scale, and mature a product-led delivery environment, while driving tangible operational and customer outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Ownership of the Lab (Not Just Delivery Into It)
- Define, stand up, and own the CDD transformation lab, including its structure, operating model, and governance.
- Lead a cross-functional ecosystem (product, engineering, operations, data) with full accountability for outcomes.
- Move beyond delivering into pre-defined programmes — take ownership of direction, priorities, and execution.
- Build and scale a high-performing, outcome-driven delivery organisation.
- Strategy → OKRs → Delivery
- Translate high-level strategic objectives into clear, measurable OKRs aligned to business outcomes.
- Break down OKRs into roadmaps, epics, and deliverables across defined time horizons.
- Ensure alignment from strategic intent through to squad-level execution and delivery outputs.
- Embed a culture of measurement, accountability, and continuous value tracking.
- SAFe Leadership with Pragmatic Execution
- Apply deep experience of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) principles and structures (e. g. ARTs, PI planning, value streams).
- Establish scalable delivery mechanisms aligned to enterprise agile best practices.
- Balance framework discipline with real-world pragmatism, adapting SAFe appropriately to context.
- Ensure delivery remains outcome-focused rather than process-heavy.
- Lab Leadership & Cross-Functional Delivery
- Lead a product-led operating model, partnering closely with Product Managers to deliver against defined outcomes.
- Drive delivery with a focus on pace, quality, and measurable impact.
- Establish and scale multiple teams/squads, ensuring alignment and consistency across delivery.
- Foster a growth culture, building capability, maturity, and leadership across the lab.
- CDD Journey Digitisation
- Redesign and digitise end-to-end CDD journeys (onboarding, KYC, periodic review).
- Eliminate manual touchpoints and drive straight-through processing (STP).
- Deliver improvements to both customer experience and operational efficiency.
- AI & Automation Enablement
- Embed AI and automation across CDD workflows (e. g. document processing, risk scoring, workflow orchestration).
- Partner with technology and data teams to deliver scalable, compliant solutions.
- Ensure benefits are measured and tied directly to OKRs and business outcomes.
- Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
- Proven track record of translating strategy into measurable OKRs and delivering against them.
- Experience owning and leading delivery environments (e. g. labs, value streams, transformation units) — not just contributing into them.
- Deep experience working within SAFe or similar scaled agile frameworks, including implementation and adaptation.
- Strong background in product-led environments, working closely with Product Managers and product structures.
- Demonstrated ability to scale teams, foster growth, and build delivery capability.
- Experience delivering large-scale transformation in regulated environments.
- Clear evidence of driving measurable business outcomes (not just delivery outputs).
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to Financial Crime, CDD, KYC, or Client Onboarding.
- Experience deploying AI, automation, or workflow technologies in operations.
- Background in complex enterprise transformations with multiple stakeholder groups.
- Ideal Backgrounds
- Transformation Programme Director / Director of Business Transformation
- Product Director (Customer Journeys / Onboarding / KYC)
- Head of Operations Transformation / Digital Operations
- Head of Financial Crime / CDD / Onboarding
- SAFe / Agile Transformation Leader
- AI / Intelligent Automation Transformation Lead
