Functional Safety Engineer

Work setting: Remote (ideally, some visits to Cambridge)

Type of contract: Permanent

Candidate location: We will give preference to candidates based around Cambridgeshire / UK.

Please note that we are not looking for a FS Architect, but a FS Engineer.

🔍 What We’re Looking For:

  • Failure Mode Elicitation of IP Blocks: Expertise in identifying potential failure modes within IP blocks in collaboration with the IP designers.
  • Association of Failure Modes with Net List Blocks: Ability to map failure modes to specific blocks in the net list by using tools from EDA vendors e.g. Synopsis, Cadence, Mentor-Siemens.
  • Analysis of Failure Effects at IP Boundaries: Skilled in assessing the impact of failure modes at the boundaries of IP blocks in collaboration with designers and verification engineers.

The role:

Our client is a world-class semiconductor IP company with a rich heritage in graphics and compute platforms for a range of sectors, including automotive.

Owing to the development of new and exciting GPU and AI/ML based compute-focussed products for the automotive sector, our client needs to grow the business capability and team in the field of safety engineering.

To this end, we are seeking a talented functional safety engineer who has experience in the development of safety-orientated analysis, safety requirements, safety architectures, and safety case development, or, is currently active in the field of complex software-intensive system development and wants to progress into high-reliability safety engineering.

This technical role blends a good understanding of computer science or engineering along with the practical application of safety orientated analysis, to help drive forward product development aligned to the safety vision and strategy of the business.

You will:

  • Support the functional safety architect.
  • Conduct hardware safety-oriented analysis in accordance with ISO 26262, supporting the development of the safety architecture.
  • Work with currently defined Safety Plans and associated corporate safety development processes and PLM framework.
  • Conduct and documenting the safety orientated analysis e.g. DFMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA.
  • Derive and document safety requirements, and their associated verification/test requirements / pass/fail criteria.
  • Support the management and definition of the Hardware-Software Interface (HSI).
  • Document the scope, synopsis, and content of the Safety Case and Safety Manual
  • Recommend process/template/tool improvements.

From time to time, you may also:

  • Work with internal and external auditors to ensure our processes reflect industry good practice.
  • Support the development of the strategy and plan to maintain functional safety management system process certification.
  • Conduct adjacent functional safety sector reviews and documenting findings/recommendations.
  • Support the development of, and execute safety plans for, new product development.
  • Perform independent confirmation reviews as/when required.
