The Role
The Additive Manufacturing Engineer role is to turn a customer demand (a specification) into a method of manufacture that can then be executed to meet the customer demand within the required lead-time and cost.
The ME has responsibility to continuously improve manufacturing methods in order to reduce lead-time, reduce cost and minimise the chance of non-conformance.
As highly skilled practitioners, MEs are expected to be involved in the operation of the manufacturing processes to deliver the final product.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Working with the research themes, their practical insight will be used to influence technology roadmaps to ensure that future manufacturing capability is developed and deployed into the Workshop to further optimise our manufacturing methods.
- Manufacturing Engineers will manage non-conformance, creating methods to bring non-conforming product back within specification.
- Support the ongoing development of MTCs manufacturing engineering capability through bringing best practice manufacturing engineering techniques into our operations.
- Enable innovative designs to be realised through providing manufacturing advice, process development and validation.
The Person
The successful candidate for the role of Additive Manufacturing Engineer will have/be:
- Degree qualified in an Engineering, Industrial based qualification or equivalent experience in Manufacturing discipline.
- Experience of developing and producing method of manufacture along with process development.
- Ability to translate customer requirements/models and technical drawings into a Method and Sequence of Manufacture and able to develop flow charts and associated documentation.
- Experience in using Materialise Magics to process CAD files for manufacture in laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) along with experience with machine related software to create build files and parameter development.
- Design for manufacture skills relating to laser powder bed fusion.
- Experience in operating L-PBF, polymer, Metal Binder Jetting and novel AM equipment.
- Experience of leading design for manufacture assessments and PFMEAs with cross functional teams.
- Basic lean knowledge including VSM, 5S etc.
- Good analytical skills and can use data to present case.
- Can manage own workload within a team.
- Comfortable presenting in front of senior stakeholders and clients.
- Willing and able to visit customer sites.
