Conrad Energy is looking for a competitive, commercially minded graduate to join our dynamic trading team. In this role, you will maximise the profit of our portfolio on our 24/7 power trading desk by analysing market data and executing trading strategies. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic recent graduate to gain hands‑on experience in the power and gas trading sector, working in a fast‑paced environment where your contributions will directly impact company profitability and performance.
The successful candidate will develop skills for trading in prompt commodity markets in the UK, trading the Conrad portfolio of 900MW of flexible power stations located around the country. You will be responsible for extracting the maximum profit from the portfolio by transacting in the UK within day power and gas markets. The role will include trading solar and wind portfolios and optimising battery storage scheduling and dispatch in the prompt power markets. You will be responsible for monitoring the real‑time performance of our generation fleet and will work in close collaboration with the operations function in coordinating power station availability. You will work as part of a small team of eight shift traders within the trading function and will be required to work on a shift rotation basis once training is complete, holding full responsibility for operation of the trading desk in all prompt markets. The role is based in Conrad HQ, located in Abingdon, just outside of Oxford.
Main Job Tasks And Responsibilities
- Responsible for the optimisation of Conrad Energy's portfolio of generation assets across wholesale and ancillary service markets.
- Ensure accurate execution of strategies in hedging for power and gas contracts.
- Compliance with business risk policies.
- Communicate effectively with our field‑based engineers to ensure all generation assets are operating safely and within expected parameters.
- Confident to work alone under minimal supervision during evenings and weekends on a shift rotation.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Motivated self‑starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commercial mindset with a competitive edge, eager to take full ownership of PnL results.
- High level of numeracy.
- Excellent communication and influence skills, in person and via telephone.
