We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join an established and growing housebuilding business in Edinburgh. The successful Senior Planner will be responsible for managing the planning process across a portfolio of residential developments, from initial site appraisal through to detailed planning consent and delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Planner with strong housebuilding experience to take ownership of a varied portfolio of residential projects and play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning process for residential developments from initial site identification through to planning approval.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, amendments and supporting documentation.
  • Liaise with local authorities, planning consultants, architects, engineers and other external stakeholders.
  • Monitor planning applications and ensure projects progress in line with agreed programmes.
  • Provide planning advice and guidance during the acquisition and development of new sites.
  • Review planning policies, local development plans and emerging planning requirements.
  • Identify potential planning risks and develop strategies to overcome issues and delays.
  • Coordinate external consultants and ensure planning submissions are completed to a high standard.
  • Attend planning meetings, site meetings and consultations with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the wider development team with feasibility, site appraisal and acquisition activities.
  • Keep up to date with changes to Scottish planning legislation, policy and regulations.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports and updates for senior management.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a Senior Planner, Planner or Planning Manager within housebuilding, residential development or a related property environment.
  • Strong understanding of the Scottish planning system and planning policy.
  • Experience managing residential planning applications from submission through to determination.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of the impact planning decisions have on development viability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with development, technical and commercial teams.
  • A relevant planning/property qualification is desirable, alongside membership of the RTPI where applicable.
