The successful Estimator will play a key role in the commercial team, preparing accurate cost estimates and tender submissions from project inception through to tender completion. Working closely with commercial, technical and operational teams, the Estimator will ensure competitive, commercially viable submissions while building strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners. Key Responsibilities- Prepare accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for residential construction projects.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Analyse client requirements and commercial terms to ensure accurate pricing.
- Liaise with commercial teams, consultants and clients to clarify project requirements.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and supply chain partners.
- Coordinate the tender process from receipt of Bills of Quantities through to tender settlement.
- Prepare detailed pricing schedules and cost plans.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving initiatives.
- Ensure all tenders are submitted on time and in line with company quality standards.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and cost databases.
- Support handover meetings with the commercial and delivery teams following successful tenders.
- Previous experience as an Estimator within the construction industry.
- Experience pricing residential, commercial or design & build construction projects.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and Bills of Quantities.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Excellent analytical and numerical ability.
- Proven experience producing accurate tenders and estimates.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience using estimating software such as EValuate or similar.
- Experience working for a main contractor or housebuilder.
- Knowledge of private and affordable housing developments.
- HNC/HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Understanding of current construction methods and building regulations.
