A leading engineering consultant operating across global markets is seeking a highly experienced Senior / Principal Process Safety Engineer to join their UK team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering safe, compliant design and engineering solutions for a range of projects in high-hazard industries such as pharmaceuticals and food and other mission-critical sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert process safety support across a variety of projects featuring diverse hazard types.
  • Contribute within multi-discipline engineering teams and also support standalone process-safety consulting services.
  • Perform and lead hazard and risk assessments, reviews and safety analyses (e.g. relevant hazard studies, risk assessments, compliance reviews).
  • Develop, review and maintain process safety deliverables including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment sizing, process calculations and other design documentation.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of process safety legislation, codes of practice and standards relevant to UK and EU (and where needed, international) framework.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and coaching particularly for candidates who have strong fundamentals but may have gaps in some areas.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously with effective prioritisation, while maintaining a professional, organised approach.
  • Foster a safety-centred, teamwork-focused attitude; contribute to a culture of safety excellence and continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Process / Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards chartered status) is highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of both process design and process safety engineering.
  • Demonstrable knowledge across a range of process safety topics (e.g. hazardous-area classification, ATEX/DSEAR, risk assessments, COMAH/major hazard regulations, hazard studies, etc.).
  • Strong process design background including experience producing and working with PFDs, P&IDs, process calculations, equipment sizing and process safety deliverables.
