An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Commercial Manager to join a successful civil engineering contractor delivering infrastructure, utilities, and earthworks projects throughout Scotland.

The successful Commercial Manager will lead the commercial function across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects, ensuring commercial performance, profitability and contractual compliance. The Commercial Manager will work closely with senior leadership, operational teams and clients to drive business performance while developing and mentoring the commercial team. This role is ideal for an ambitious Commercial Manager looking to take ownership of major projects and contribute to the continued growth of a well-established contractor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the commercial management of multiple civil engineering projects.
  • Oversee Quantity Surveyors and support their professional development.
  • Ensure robust commercial controls are implemented across all projects.
  • Prepare and review monthly cost reports, forecasts and CVRs.
  • Manage client relationships and commercial negotiations.
  • Oversee subcontract procurement and contract administration.
  • Negotiate and agree variations, compensation events and final accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC and other forms of contract.
  • Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with operational teams to maximise profitability.
  • Support tender reviews and pre-construction activities.
  • Provide commercial reporting to senior management.
RequirementsEssential
  • Previous experience as a Commercial Manager within civil engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and financial management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage large infrastructure or utilities projects.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Civil Engineering.
  • MRICS or equivalent professional membership.
  • Experience managing commercial teams across multiple projects.
