Role Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Applications Design Engineer to join our engineering team. Reporting directly to the Mechanical Engineering Director, you will play a key role in designing, testing, and supporting both bespoke and standard products for heavy industry. This role demands close collaboration with manufacturing, testing, and customer service teams to ensure designs are robust, cost‑effective, and manufacturable.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and draught machinery and equipment using Siemens NX, managing all engineering data within Teamcentre.
- Support load, functional, and cycle testing in partnership with the Technical Development & Test Manager.
- Provide weekly, hands‑on support at the production site to resolve manufacturing and assembly challenges.
- Produce manufacturable, cost‑effective designs leveraging expertise in sheet metal fabrication.
- Prepare clear and concise technical documentation and design updates.
- Contribute to engineering improvements, troubleshooting, and practical problem‑solving.
- Collaborate closely with assembly, prototyping, and testing teams to ensure design intent is fully realised.
Qualifications & Skills
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering from a UK or European university, with a degree recognised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
- Minimum of three years' experience in mechanical design within heavy industries.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcentre (essential).
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
- Alignment with Conquip's core values and commitment to quality and safety.
Additional Requirements
- Full‑time, office‑based role at our headquarters in Alton, Hampshire (GU34).
- Weekly travel to a nearby production facility (RG29).
- Hands‑on, practical engineer with strong problem‑solving capabilities.
- Valid driving licence and access to own vehicle.
