Conquip Engineering Group is a leading UK manufacturer and supplier of innovative construction equipment, supporting major infrastructure and building projects across the UK and internationally. As part of our continued growth, we are expanding our depot network and proudly opening our first Scottish depot in the Livingston area. This role offers a unique opportunity to play a pivotal part in establishing and developing a brand-new operation, with comprehensive support from central Operations, Transport, HR, and Client Operations teams. It is a hands-on, operational leadership position, ideal for someone who enjoys being present on the depot floor and leading by example.
Role Overview
The Depot Operations Manager will oversee the day-to-day management of the depot, ensuring safe, efficient operations that comply with Conquip’s processes and standards. You will be instrumental in launching the depot, supporting recruitment and onboarding (with full assistance from Head Office), and embedding a strong operational culture from the outset. This is a working manager role that is highly hands-on and central to the depot’s growth and success; it is not a desk-based position.
Key Responsibilities
- Depot & Stock Operations
- Manage stock control across the hire fleet and new equipment
- Maintain accurate stock records and inventory systems
- Analyse stock movement to identify fast-moving and growth product lines
- Oversee goods-in processes, including:
- Cleaning and inspecting returned equipment
- Assisting with minor repairs as required
- Identifying repair needs and managing job sheets
- Recording labour and repair activity accurately
- Ensure customers consistently receive a high standard of service
- Act as the local escalation point for operational customer issues
- Collaborate closely with the Client Operations team to align stock availability with customer demand and sales pipeline requirements
- Promote a culture of service excellence across the depot
- Ensure depot transport activities comply with all relevant legislation and standards (including FORS, where applicable)
- Monitor and manage driver KPIs
- Coordinate vehicle movements in partnership with the central Transport team
- Take day-to-day responsibility for depot staff (excluding sales roles)
- Support recruitment and onboarding of new team members in collaboration with HR and Head Office
- Train, develop and motivate depot personnel
- Plan and manage holiday and sickness cover effectively
- Lead by example and actively participate in operational tasks when required
- Deliver regular feedback, performance support and recognition
- Conduct team briefings and toolbox talks as necessary
- Maintain full responsibility for depot QHSE standards
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and Conquip procedures
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe depot environment
- Ensure all workflows align with Conquip operational processes

Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in depot operations, logistics, hire, engineering or construction environments
- Strong operational leadership and people management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on role
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Strong problem-solving mindset
- Confident IT user (Microsoft O365; experience with rental or asset management systems advantageous)
Desirable
- Forklift licence
- Experience supporting the setup or growth of an operational facility
- Knowledge of transport compliance standards (e.g. FORS)
