Location: Alton, Hampshire (Office Based)

Salary: £37,000 – £40,000 per annum

Hours: Monday – Friday, 07:30 – 17:00

Start Date: ASAP (handover period planned)

About the Role

Conquip Engineering Group is seeking an experienced 2nd Line IT Support Technician to join our Technology team at our head office in Alton. Reporting directly to the Business Systems Manager, you will be instrumental in supporting the day-to-day IT operations while actively contributing to infrastructure enhancements and technology projects. This role extends beyond traditional service desk duties, involving system improvements, infrastructure upgrades and technical projects such as server migrations, network configuration changes and communications system enhancements. You will provide support to colleagues across head office, depots and remote sites, ensuring the business operates with reliable, secure and effective technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality IT support to users on-site and remotely
  • Manage and resolve escalated service desk tickets and complex technical issues
  • Record, track and document incidents through to resolution
  • Prioritise incidents and requests to ensure SLA compliance
  • Install, configure and maintain hardware and software systems
  • Support new starter and leaver processes, including device setup and access configuration
  • Provide basic IT guidance and support to employees as required
  • Conduct preventative maintenance activities and system health checks
  • Assist in managing security tools such as antivirus, email filtering and web filtering in collaboration with external IT partners
  • Maintain and support network infrastructure, including wireless networks and remote access services
  • Assist with data backup, restoration and disaster recovery procedures
  • Maintain strong working relationships with third-party technology suppliers
  • Support IT infrastructure upgrades and system improvements
  • Contribute to business technology and systems projects

Technology Environment

You will work with a diverse range of technologies including:

  • Microsoft 365 (Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint)
  • Active Directory & Azure Active Directory
  • Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022)
  • Hyper-V virtualisation
  • Networking technologies including DNS, DHCP, VPN, LAN and WAN
  • Network hardware such as firewalls, switches, routers and printers
  • Desktop and laptop support
  • VoIP telephony systems

Experience & Skills Required

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an IT support role
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 environments
  • Experience supporting Windows operating systems on servers and workstations
  • Good understanding of Active Directory and Azure Active Directory
  • Experience administering Windows Server environments
  • Knowledge of network troubleshooting and infrastructure support
  • Experience supporting desktop and laptop hardware
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple support requests effectively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Highly self-motivated with the capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Desirable Qualifications

  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
  • Azure experience including AZ-104 certification
  • Relevant IT degree or equivalent industry experience
