Job Summary
The Product Control Lead - LNG provides independent financial oversight, valuation governance, and commercial control support for LNG trading and optimisation activities. The role is responsible for ensuring accurate profit and loss reporting, valuation integrity, exposure transparency, and a robust control environment across the trade lifecycle. Working closely with Trading, Market Risk, Finance, Accounting, and Operations, the position serves as a key business partner supporting sound commercial decision-making and regulatory compliance.
Position Overview
Your responsibilities may include:
- Product Control & P&L Governance - Lead the production, validation, and explanation of daily, monthly, and quarterly P&L for LNG trading portfolios. Analyse and communicate key P&L drivers, including market movements, freight, optionality, foreign exchange impacts, and inventory effects. Ensure accurate mark-to-market valuation processes and challenge valuation assumptions where appropriate. Oversee balance sheet substantiation, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Valuation & Financial Controls - Validate pricing curves, valuation models, market inputs, and trade economics. Maintain robust valuation governance and independent price verification processes. Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to support statutory reporting and audit requirements. Ensure adherence to internal control standards and applicable accounting frameworks.
- Trade Lifecycle Oversight - Ensure accurate trade capture and lifecycle management for LNG transactions. Review and monitor physical and financial trading activities to ensure completeness and accuracy. Support the implementation of new products, structures, and commercial strategies by establishing appropriate control frameworks. Identify and escalate control exceptions and operational risks.
- Risk & Commercial Partnership - Collaborate with Trading and Market Risk teams to ensure alignment between P&L reporting, exposure measurement, and risk monitoring. Provide commercial insight into trading performance and portfolio exposures. Support management decision-making through high-quality financial and analytical reporting. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance governance, transparency, and operational resilience.
- Leadership - Provide technical leadership, coaching, and guidance to Product Control analysts. Promote a culture of accountability, integrity, continuous improvement, and strong financial control.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent skills, knowledge, and experience.
- Experience in Product Control, Trading Finance, Commercial Finance, Risk, or a related function supporting commodity trading activities.
- Demonstrated experience delivering independent P&L reporting, valuation oversight, and financial controls.
- Strong understanding of commodity trading fundamentals, valuation techniques, and risk concepts.
- Experience partnering effectively with Trading, Finance, Risk, and Operations stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional accounting or finance qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA, CPA, or equivalent).
- Experience supporting LNG, natural gas, power, crude oil, NGL, or related commodity portfolios.
- Knowledge of physical LNG markets, shipping economics, freight valuation, and commodity trading operations.
- Experience with ETRM systems and valuation platforms.
- Familiarity with UK regulatory requirements, audit processes, and financial control expectations.
