About Us
Connolly is a family-run construction, refurbishment, and development company specialising in the social housing sector across the North West, North Wales and West Yorkshire. We don’t just build homes — we improve lives. We’re committed to creating safe, warm, and sustainable places to live while supporting the communities we serve. Our ambition is to become the most trusted and respected social housing partner in the North of England.
The Role
Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, you’ll play an important supporting role in promoting a strong safety culture, driving sustainability, and ensuring our projects operate responsibly and in line with legislation, standards and best practice. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll learn from experienced EHS professionals and develop the technical knowledge and confidence to progress toward NEBOSH, IEMA or similar professional qualifications — fully supported by Connolly. You’ll work across a wide variety of projects, gaining real‑world experience in everything from site inspections and risk assessments to carbon reporting, ESG initiatives and retrofit compliance.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Help promote a positive, proactive EHS culture across Connolly.
- Support compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation, ISO standards and internal procedures (with guidance).
- Contribute to sustainability and ESG workstreams, including carbon reduction planning and environmental initiatives.
- Monitor and report on environmental and ESG performance data for internal and client reporting.
- Support EHS input into tenders, bids and project start‑up information.
- Assist with risk assessments, RAMS reviews and subcontractor documentation.
- Join senior advisors on site inspections and audits, capturing observations and helping drive improvements.
- Assist with investigations into incidents, near misses and safety observations.
- Help deliver toolbox talks, training sessions and awareness activities.
- Assist in the delivery of retrofit and decarbonisation programmes in line with PAS 2035.
- Maintain accurate EHS records, logs and documentation.
- Support emergency preparedness activities and drills.
- Collaborate with colleagues across all teams and functions.
- Act as a role model for Connolly’s behaviours, values and ways of working.
About You
You’ll thrive in this role if you’re curious, enthusiastic, and passionate about developing a career in Environmental, Health & Safety. We’re looking for someone with:
- A degree in Environmental Science, Health & Safety, Sustainability or a related discipline.
- Interest in pursuing NEBOSH and/or IEMA qualifications (we’ll support you).
- A basic understanding of environmental and safety principles from your studies or placements.
- Strong communication and people skills — you’ll be working with teams across the business.
- Good organisation and time‑management skills.
- An eye for detail and a willingness to learn.
- A proactive, positive, hands‑on approach.
- A genuine passion for EHS and sustainability.
- An adaptable mindset and enthusiasm for continuous development.
