A bit about the role ... We are looking for an experienced and driven Financial Controller to join our finance team, reporting to the Head of Finance. This is a key leadership role with responsibility for strengthening and professionalising the finance function. You will ensure the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of our financial reporting, maintain a strong financial control environment and provide technical accounting leadership across the business. Working closely with senior leadership, you will play a critical role in supporting business performance, driving improvements and ensuring robust financial governance as the business continues to grow.

What you will be responsible for ...

  • Owning the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting processes
  • Ensuring accurate and timely month end and year end close
  • Reviewing management accounts and ensuring high quality financial insight for senior leadership
  • Maintaining strong balance sheet controls, including reconciliations and review processes
  • Developing and strengthening internal controls across the business
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies
  • Acting as the technical accounting lead, advising on new and complex transactions
  • Leading the preparation of statutory accounts and managing the external audit process
  • Overseeing cash reporting, working capital and balance sheet performance
  • Identifying financial risks and implementing appropriate controls and mitigations
  • Leading, coaching and developing members of the finance team
  • Driving continuous improvement in finance processes, systems and ways of working
  • Building strong relationships across operational teams to support effective decision making

What we’d like from you ...

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified accountant
  • Significant post-qualification experience in a financial control or similar role
  • Proven experience delivering accurate, timely financial reporting in a complex or growing organisation
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge (UK GAAP / IFRS)
  • Experience of improving financial controls, processes and reporting standards
  • Experience managing or mentoring finance teams
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior level
  • Experience working with external auditors and delivering statutory accounts
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial systems / ERP platforms
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with strong attention to detail and accountability
  • Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for non-finance stakeholders

Desirable:

  • Experience within construction, social housing or a multi site operational environment
  • Experience supporting business growth, transformation or system improvements
