This is a key appointment within the finance team, offering the opportunity to take ownership of costing and profitability analysis across a complex manufacturing and project-led environment. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting strategic decision-making, driving efficiencies, improving margins and providing meaningful commercial insight to senior leadership.

The Opportunity: Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and enhancing costing processes that support business growth and profitability. This is far more than a traditional accounting role. You will act as a trusted business partner, helping operational teams understand performance, identify opportunities for improvement and make informed commercial decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the product and project costing function across the business.
  • Develop and maintain accurate standard costing models.
  • Analyse labour, material and overhead costs to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver detailed variance analysis and provide recommendations to improve profitability.
  • Support pricing strategies, quotations and tender submissions through robust cost analysis.
  • Partner closely with production, engineering and operational teams to improve financial performance.
  • Monitor product and project profitability, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Produce meaningful management information and performance reporting for senior leadership.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within finance and operational processes.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of costing data within ERP and financial systems.

About You: We are keen to speak with ambitious finance professionals who can demonstrate strong manufacturing or project-based costing experience. You may currently be working as a Senior Costing Accountant, Cost Accountant, Manufacturing Accountant, Management Accountant, Commercial Accountant, or Finance Manager.

Essential Experience:

  • Significant experience within a manufacturing, engineering or project-led environment.
  • Strong understanding of costing methodologies, variance analysis and profitability reporting.
  • Experience supporting operational and commercial decision-making.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Desirable:

  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience.
  • Experience within engineering, construction, modular manufacturing or project-based industries.
  • Exposure to Power BI or advanced reporting tools.
