An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Fabrication Supervisor to join a well-established and rapidly growing manufacturing business supplying specialist fabrication, finishing and assembly solutions to a diverse range of industries including construction, transport, renewable energy, materials handling and data centres. This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced fabricator or welder who is ready to take ownership of a busy fabrication department, drive production performance, and support a skilled team in delivering high-quality work safely and efficiently.
The Role
As Fabrication Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the fabrication department, ensuring work is completed safely, on time and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with the Production Manager, you will coordinate workloads, oversee production schedules, support your team, and ensure fabrication activities run smoothly while meeting customer requirements and delivery deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Production & Planning
- Organise and prioritise daily workloads to meet production targets and delivery schedules.
- Coordinate fabrication activities in line with production plans and job priorities.
- Monitor workflow and identify potential delays or bottlenecks.
- Update production schedules and progress trackers as required.
- Ensure all production documentation, job cards, drawings and weld records are completed accurately.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate and support a team of fabricators and welders.
- Allocate work based on skills, experience and capacity.
- Monitor attendance, timekeeping and team performance.
- Provide coaching, guidance and support to develop team capability.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new employees.
- Foster a positive, professional and team-focused working environment.
- Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure all fabrication and welding activities meet required quality standards and customer specifications.
- Verify work is completed in accordance with engineering drawings, procedures and approved welding specifications.
- Conduct in-process quality checks to minimise defects and rework.
- Support investigations into quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Work closely with quality teams to reduce non-conformances and improve performance.
- Health & Safety
- Promote and enforce safe working practices throughout the department.
- Ensure compliance with all company and statutory health and safety requirements.
- Monitor the correct use of PPE and safe systems of work.
- Support accident, incident and near-miss investigations.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organisation.
What We're Looking For / Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in fabrication or welding within a heavy engineering or manufacturing environment.
- At least 2 years' experience leading or supervising a fabrication team.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes and welding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Experience planning workloads and managing production flow.
- Proven ability to deliver against production targets and deadlines.
- Strong understanding of quality standards and inspection processes.
