A well-established and highly respected manufacturing and project-led business is seeking an experienced Costing Accountant to join its finance and operational team. This is a key appointment within the business, suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can confidently manage the financial performance of multiple live projects simultaneously. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving profitability, improving operational efficiency, and supporting strategic decision-making across the organisation. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior management and operational teams, providing accurate financial insight and commercial analysis to support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculate fully absorbed standard costs to support tender pricing and commercial decision-making
  • Monitor multiple ongoing projects, ensuring accurate tracking of:
    • Labour allocation and productivity
    • Material usage and pricing
    • Project timelines and recoveries
    • Profitability and budget performance
  • Produce budgets, forecasts and cost analysis reports
  • Carry out weekly variance analysis against targets, budgets and forecasts
  • Analyse direct labour costs and departmental recoveries
  • Process and oversee payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely payment of employees
  • Maintain payroll records, liaising with HR and management regarding pay-related queries, statutory payments and deductions
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements
  • Support management with financial insight to improve efficiencies and maintain strong profit margins
  • Assist in developing strategies that enhance competitiveness and support new business opportunities
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure accurate financial reporting across live projects
  • Utilise and develop reporting systems and business intelligence tools to improve visibility and performance tracking

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in a Cost Accounting, Management Accounting or similar finance role within a manufacturing, engineering, construction, or project-driven environment
  • Previous experience processing payroll and managing payroll-related administration
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, statutory deductions and compliance requirements
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to analyse complex project costing data
  • Experience managing financial oversight across multiple concurrent projects
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using ERP and reporting systems
  • Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools would be highly advantageous
  • Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and accuracy
