ConneXu facilitates whole of life support for adults with an intellectual disability in a range of different circumstances and in a variety of ways. Some people live in their own homes and receive specific support to assist with their needs or to help them pursue their interests. The focus of service development is on facilitating a range of options to best suit the aspirations of people who require some assistance to live their lives.

We’re looking for a compassionate and reliable Community Facilitator to support a young autistic person to live a full, active, and meaningful life. This role is all about building a genuine relationship, supporting independence, and creating opportunities for fun, growth, and connection in the community. You’ll be working one-on-one, supporting with daily activities and helping them engage in things they love.

This is a Monday to Friday role (8:00am–4:00pm), supporting a person who enjoys a wide range of activities, including:

  • Zumba and gym sessions
  • Walking and swimming
  • Karaoke and music
  • Riding trikes
  • Interlock programme participation
  • Horse riding
  • Community outings and day trips

You’ll also be required to drive between Cambridge, Hamilton, and Te Awamutu, supporting access to activities and appointments. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting participation in daily activities and hobbies
  • Providing personal care (including catheter support – training can be provided if needed)
  • Encouraging independence and life skills
  • Supporting community engagement and social connections
  • Assisting with appointments and transport
  • Building a positive, respectful, and fun relationship

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, calm, and understanding of neurodiversity

  • Reliable and adaptable
  • Emotionally intelligent and respectful
  • Fun, encouraging, and genuinely enjoys supporting others

You’ll need a full New Zealand Driver’s Licence (essential), confidence driving across Cambridge, Hamilton, and Te Awamutu, and the ability to swim (essential). Experience with catheter care is desirable (but not essential) and experience supporting autistic people or in the disability sector is a bonus.
