About the Role
Connex Education is recruiting psychology students and graduates who are looking to gain hands-on experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within mainstream primary schools across Taunton and the surrounding areas from September 2026. This opportunity is ideal for psychology graduates, aspiring educational psychologists, clinical psychologists, child psychologists, therapists, counsellors, teachers, or individuals looking to build experience in education, SEND, mental health, child development, or behaviour support. This is a highly rewarding role for graduates who want to apply their understanding of child development, behaviour, learning, and wellbeing in a real school setting while making a meaningful difference in children’s educational journeys.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups throughout the school day
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities
- Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, behaviour, confidence, and learning needs
- Use a reflective, nurturing approach to support individual learning needs and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets where applicable
- Encourage independence and promote positive learning behaviours
- Work collaboratively with class teachers and the SENCO
- Assist with personal care where required, following appropriate training and school guidance
- Help create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
What We’re Looking For
- Psychology degree, psychology studies, or a strong interest in child development, SEND, mental health, behaviour, or education
- Experience working with children or young people is desirable, including schools, childcare, tutoring, youth work, care, mentoring, coaching, or voluntary experience
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs and understanding how pupils learn, communicate, and regulate
- A reflective and professional approach, with an interest in gaining practical experience relevant to psychology, education, therapy, or child development career pathways
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to adapt to different classroom environments and individual pupil needs
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education
- Right to work in the UK
