Connex Education are seeking experienced and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to work across a range of primary schools in Taunton. Opportunities are available on a day-to-day supply basis, as well as short-term and long-term placements starting from September 2026.

As a HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Responsibilities may include:

  • Delivering planned lessons in the teacher’s absence
  • Leading small group interventions
  • Providing one-to-one support
  • Helping to create a positive and engaging learning environment for pupils

Person Specification

  • A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (commonly Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning)
  • HLTA status or willingness to work towards HLTA status
  • Strong understanding of the primary curriculum
  • Ability to lead whole-class learning when required
  • Good behaviour management and communication skills
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Must hold a DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
