We are recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant with either Swimming Instructor or Lifeguard experience to join a highly supportive specialist school in Sutton Coldfield from September. This unique role combines swimming support and classroom-based Teaching Assistant duties, making it ideal for candidates with a passion for education, inclusion, and supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

SEN Teaching Assistant & Swimming Support Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your mornings will be spent supporting pupils within the school’s swimming pool, helping children with physical disabilities access swimming and water-based activities safely and confidently. In the afternoons, you will work as a Teaching Assistant within the classroom, supporting the class teacher and helping pupils achieve their educational and personal development goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Swimming Instructor / Lifeguard Duties
    • Support pupils during swimming sessions.
    • Promote water safety and confidence in the pool.
    • Assist children with physical disabilities during swimming activities.
    • Ensure a safe, positive and inclusive environment.
  • SEN Teaching Assistant Duties
    • Work alongside the class teacher as a Teaching Assistant.
    • Support pupils with learning activities and classroom engagement.
    • Assist children with Special Educational Needs and physical disabilities.
    • Help implement learning and care plans.
    • Encourage independence, communication and social development.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Swimming Instructor or Lifeguard.
  • Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals.
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with physical disabilities.
  • A positive, patient and caring approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
